Nearly 23,000 hectares of agricultural land cleared of mines in Azerbaijan in 2024

A total of 22,381.8 hectares of agricultural lands were demined in 2024 with 592.5 hectares under transport projects, 18,232 hectares under residential infrastructure projects, 2,327.5 hectares under energy projects, and 18,490.1 hectares under other projects, according to the annual report of the Cabinet of Ministers.

SİA informs, citing the document, discussed at today's plenary session of the Milli Majlis, that 9,507 hectares of lands were demined in Aghdam, 11,173 hectares in Jabrayil, 8,881.4 hectares in Fuzuli, 5,994.4 hectares in Kalbajar, 7,747.5 hectares in Zangilan, 5,864.7 hectares in Lachin, 2,150.3 hectares in Khojavand, 1,039.4 hectares in Tartar, 1,650.1 hectares in Khojaly, 6,911.6 hectares in Gubadly, 261.8 hectares in Shusha, 842.7 hectares in other districts.

The document noted that last year, 5,900 mines and other pieces of military ordnance were discovered and neutralized in the territories of Aghstafa, Barda, Goranboy, Goygol, Naftalan, Gazakh, Samukh, Shamkir, Tovuz, Yevlakh, Ganja, Aghjabadi, Aghdash, Gadabay, Gabala, Zardab.

During the reporting period, 5 civilians died and 31 sustained injuries of various severity as a result of mine explosions. In addition, five servicemen received various degrees of bodily injuries.
