Western Azerbaijan Community condemns Armenian Foreign Minister for defending war crimes suspects

The Western Azerbaijan Community (WAC) has strongly criticized Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan for attempting to justify Armenian nationals accused of war crimes currently on trial in Azerbaijan.

The community stated that during his speech at the high-level meeting of the 56th session of the UN Human Rights Council on February 24, Mirzoyan made remarks that contradict human rights principles and hinder efforts to restore peace in the region.

WAC emphasized that the Armenian Foreign Minister’s attempt to question the fairness of the trial against those accused of committing the Khojaly genocide—especially on the eve of its anniversary—disrespects the memory of the victims of the February 25-26, 1992 tragedy.

"The primary responsibility of Armenia in the field of human rights is to create conditions for the peaceful, safe, and dignified return of Azerbaijanis who were forcibly expelled from Armenia," the statement says.

The community has called on the Armenian government to abandon its unconstructive policies, facilitate the return of Azerbaijanis who faced ethnic cleansing, and take concrete steps toward achieving lasting peace.
