Tashkent and Baku may allow use of biometric passports for travel

Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan are considering the possibility of using biometric passports instead of ordinary passports for travel between the two countries, SİA informs.

According to Uzbek media reports, this issue was discussed between representatives of the Department of Entry-Exit and Citizens Registration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan and the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan.

The discussions were held with the participation of employees from the consular and legal departments of the foreign ministries of both countries.

The possibility of recognizing biometric ID cards as documents for crossing the borders of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan was discussed.

The parties noted that this step would facilitate citizen movement, strengthen bilateral relations, and expand cooperation in migration policy.

If the decision is adopted, travels to both countries using biometric ID cards will become more convenient.

The adoption of this decision is expected to strengthen trade-economic, cultural, and tourism relations between the two countries.
