Mazahir Panahov: Municipal elections in Azerbaijan organized in line with modern requirements

Municipal elections in Azerbaijan have generated great interest, with candidates from 24 political parties participating in the elections, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Mazahir Panahov said, SİA informs.

He noted that the municipal elections were organized in accordance with modern requirements: "Web cameras are being used to monitor the elections. Interested persons from any country can observe the elections by visiting the Central Election Commission's website. This is Azerbaijan's internationally accepted practice."

The CEC chairman emphasized that if any negative situations are recorded during the electoral process, the respective polling station will inform the electoral district, and from there the CEC.

He reported that preliminary election results will be announced this evening.

The voting will continue until 7 p.m. (GMT+4). The elections are being held at 5,846 polling stations covering 118 electoral districts.

As many as 16,092 candidates are competing for 8,071 seats in 685 municipalities.

According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), 5,961,987 voters are eligible to participate in the elections.

January 29 has been declared a non-working day in Azerbaijan due to the elections.
