"Elections play an important role in the social and political life of every nation. The fact that Azerbaijan held elections to the Milli Majlis for the first time after liberating its territories from occupation is of particular importance to us," Akif Mikayilov, chairman of the Regional Public Organization of Azerbaijan National-Cultural Autonomy in the Komi Republic of Russia, told Secki 2024 Independent Media Center.
He emphasized that Azerbaijanis living abroad will also closely follow the elections that will take place on September 1.
"Shusha, Lachin people, in general, our citizens returning to other territories freed from occupation will elect their MPs in their native lands. For many years we looked at this event as a dream. Our dreams have now become reality. Currently, our country is the center of attention not only of the Caucasus, but of the world as a whole. In this sense, the holding of elections by Azerbaijan as a country that has achieved full sovereignty will be highlighted as a special moment in the world media. I think this factor should be emphasized more. Personally, I am proud of the fact that there are already ballot boxes in our historical and ancestral lands. Yes, preparation for election processes in Khankendi and Shusha is no longer a dream! I also experience the feelings of joy experienced by our former settlers. I hope that our citizens will actively participate in this historical process," concluded Akif Mikayilov.
