"Current parliamentary elections are of exceptional importance in history of Azerbaijan" - Associate Professor of Germany's Ruhr University

"The elections to the Milli Majlis to be held on September 1 have an exceptional importance in the history of Azerbaijan. Because the parliamentary elections will cover the entire territory of Azerbaijan for the first time. Voters will vote for their candidates in every region of the country, including liberated areas. This will once again demonstrate the national sovereignty of Azerbaijan in the international world. The name of Azerbaijan will be strengthened as a reliable partner on a global scale,” the associate professor of Germany's Ruhr University, deputy director of Italy's Institute of Economic Development and Social Changes, Dr. Elkhan Richard Sadik-Zade told Secki 2024 Independent Media Center.

He noted that the new parliament will play an important role in responding to the various challenges that Azerbaijan will face in the coming decades.

"Azerbaijan, by hosting the COP29 events, has made a claim for leadership in the green agenda. In other words, Azerbaijan acts as a new voice in the world. In order to strengthen the leading position of the country at the international level in this field, it is necessary to create the necessary legislative framework. This requires more modern and flexible approaches from the parliament. The new parliament will take important steps based on the principles of green agenda and sustainable development,” the professor stressed.

E. Sadik-Zade noted that the new parliament will operate in a period of increased geopolitical risks, and thus the challenges facing it will be greater. In addition, this election will confirm the role of Azerbaijan as an important player in terms of stability and security in the region.

"This election is also important for Azerbaijanis living abroad. The new parliament will be a legislative body meeting the requirements of the modern era, covering the liberated territories and all layers of the Azerbaijani society. This election is not only a parliamentary election, but also an opportunity to make historic decisions that will shape the future of Azerbaijan," he stressed.
