Western Azerbaijan Community Responds to Armenian Archbishop's Controversial Statements
Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, who presents himself as the leader of the "Holy Struggle" movement in Armenia, has issued a statement that expresses racist and xenophobic views regarding the rights of Western Azerbaijanis and their right to return to their ancestral lands. This dilettante figure, whose role as a religious leader or politician remains unclear, has made radical remarks that distort the issue of over 300,000 Western Azerbaijanis' peaceful return, attempting to politicize and xenophobically frame the situation.
According to a statement from the Western Azerbaijan Community, the community condemned Galstanyan's remarks and called on the archbishop to refrain from such racist rhetoric.
The community emphasized that instead of representing and promoting peace, justice, and reconciliation, the archbishop's chauvinistic stance reflects the prevalence of such racist attitudes within the Armenian Gregorian Church and society, SIA reports citing AZERTAC.
The statement also urged the Armenian government to prevent the emergence of such racist tendencies within its territory, citing the harm caused to the peace process by such views.
