Executive Committee of the Turkish News Agencies Alliance holds its 1st meeting in Shusha

Within the framework of the 2nd Shusha Global Media Forum, the Executive Committee of the Alliance of Turkish News Agencies convened for its first meeting. Elshan Shahbalayev, Secretary-General of the Alliance, moderated the session, during which Vugar Aliyev, Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC), remarked that the inaugural meeting of the Executive Committee marks a historic event in the media landscape of the Turkic world.

Vugar Aliyev noted that “we are witnessing close cooperation between Turkic states in all fields. The relations in the field of information are also expanding. A number of joint projects are underway. The establishment of the Alliance of Turkic News Agencies in Istanbul in November of last year was a significant step in this direction. As leading news agencies, we can create a space of accurate and prompt information about of our countries.”

“It goes without saying that all news agencies represented here already cooperate with each other in a bilateral format. However, ATNA should play the role of an institution where news of the Turkic world is collected, where our activities are coordinated, and where projects are prepared so that our joint efforts in the field of information serve to bring our countries closer together,” he pointed out.

Yusuf Ozkir, a member of the Board of Directors of Anadolu Agency, highlighted the significance of hosting the Turkish News Agencies Alliance Executive Committee meeting in Shusha. He commended Anadolu Agency's leadership in establishing ATNA on November 6, 2023. He highlighted expansion of cooperation among Turkic information agencies to combat disinformation, promote cultural exchanges, and bolster educational collaborations through mutual training and beneficial joint projects for ATNA member countries.

Also speaking at the meeting were Chairman of the Board of the Qazcontent JSC Bekzat Zhusupov, Director General of the Kabar National News Agency of Kyrgyzstan Mederbek Shermetaliyev, Editor-in-Chief of UZA agency of Uzbekistan Durdona Salikhova, Founding Director of Hungary’s MTI agency Robert Karash

During the meeting, member agencies discussed projects concerning the Alliance's logo, website concepts, joint training programs, and current operational matters.

The founding members of ATNA—AZERTAC of Azerbaijan, Anadolu Agency of Turkey, "Qazcontent" of Kazakhstan, "Kabar" of Kyrgyzstan, and "UzA" of Uzbekistan—established the Alliance in Istanbul in November 2023 during its General Assembly.

The Alliance aims to strengthen information exchanges among its members, conduct joint training programs, organize competitions, and promote Turkic world news globally.
