COP29 in Baku: A litmus test for global climate action

COP29 is set to take place at a critical juncture for communities affected by the climate crisis. As reported by Bulgarian media outlet FAKTI, this summit is being viewed as a "litmus test" for global climate action.

Report informs citing FAKTI that the urgency of the climate crisis has never been more apparent.

Global air temperatures are rising faster than anticipated, extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and severe, sea levels are fluctuating, glaciers are melting, and desertification and increasing air pollution are contributing to deteriorating human health. These challenges underscore the importance of maximum participation from the international community in COP29, the media outlet said.

The author notes that the last promise of $100 billion in annual funding, made in 2009, was not fulfilled, leading to increased distrust and lost decades in the fight against climate change. This failure highlights the need for concrete action and commitment at COP29.
