Colomina: We strongly support normalization of Baku-Yerevan relations

"We strongly support the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as negotiations aimed at concluding a long-term peace agreement between the countries," said Javier Colomina, special representative of the NATO secretary general in the Caucasus and Central Asia, as he was answering the questions of the Armenian service of 'Voice of America' regarding the Armenian-Azerbaijani process, Report informs referring to the Armenian First Channel News.

"We strongly support the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the negotiations aimed at establishing peace and the conclusion of a long-term peace treaty between them. We try to guide our partners in the right direction. And for us, the right way is the normalization of relations, because it will bring stability in the Caucasus," Colomina said.

He emphasized that "the Caucasus has a direct influence on the Black Sea region, and the Black Sea is a region of strategic interest for NATO. Therefore, it is in our interest in the region that it be stable, because instability affects us."

To the question whether the high-ranking official sees progress in the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process, Colomina answered that he is optimistic, sees positive progress, and highlighted the trilateral meeting in Washington with the mediation of US Secretary of State Blinken.

"I believe there is progress. I don't know where it will take us, but we will continue to support the process as much as we can," he added.
