Turkish University Hosts Conference on Geo-Politics of South Caucasus and Zangezur Corridor

The Center for Strategic Research at the Turkish University in Kars has organized a conference on the topic "Geo-Politics of South Caucasus and Zangezur Corridor".

The conference was attended by Azerbaijani Consul General Nuru Guliyev, Rector of the Turkish University Professor Huseyin Kapu, scholars, experts, and students from the university, SIA reports citing AZERTAC.

The rector of the university highlighted the strategic importance of the Zangezur Corridor. The opening of this corridor will strengthen the relations between Turkey and its friendly and brotherly countries.

"This new corridor is crucial for the whole Turkish world. This route will reduce transportation costs, become a strong stimulus for international and regional trade, and strengthen historical and cultural ties between nations," said the rector of one of Turkey's leading universities.

Azerbaijani Consul General Nuru Guliyev also spoke about the role of the Zangezur Corridor, stating that with its opening, cargo will be transported from Istanbul to Kars and Iğdır in a short period of time, and then to Azerbaijan. The corridor will also provide opportunities for uninterrupted cargo transportation through both road and rail transportation.

He emphasized that a part of the Zangezur Corridor passes through the ancient territories of Western Azerbaijan, which are currently occupied by Armenia.

The conference also discussed issues related to the influence of individual countries, including Russia and Iran, on the processes in the region. The social-economic importance of the new transportation route for the region was also discussed.
