President Ilham Aliyev: Today, the Non-Aligned Movement is a Stronger Organization

The Republic of Congo, which has successfully chaired the Non-Aligned Movement for four years until January of this year, has always felt Azerbaijan's unwavering support.

President Ilham Aliyev made this statement in a press release alongside President Denis Sassou-Nguesso of the Republic of Congo.

"Congo has consistently backed our initiatives, resulting in the institutional development of the Non-Aligned Movement during our tenure. The creation of the Parliamentary Network, Youth, and Women's platforms occurred under our leadership. Today, the Non-Aligned Movement is more robust compared to previous periods, and I believe enhancing its global role and involvement in global processes is in everyone's interest," added our head of state.

President Ilham Aliyev's Diplomatic Success - Another Year

Azerbaijan's assumption of the chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, the second-largest international organization in the world after the UN, highlights our nation's considerable global influence. Notably, Azerbaijan's chairmanship extension, initially slated to conclude in 2022 after three years, was prolonged by one year. Indeed, Azerbaijan's four-year chairmanship is a historical achievement. It's worth noting that member states with significant territorial, demographic, and economic strength participate in this movement, prioritizing peaceful conflict resolution through dialogue and adherence to international law without aligning with any military blocs. Azerbaijan's chairmanship in 2019, propelled by its political sway globally, and the unprecedented extension of the chairmanship term underscore President Ilham Aliyev's adept foreign policy.

"Azerbaijan Safeguards Member States' Legal Interests During Chairmanship"

President Ilham Aliyev, speaking at the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement's Coordinating Bureau on "Non-Aligned Movement: Joint and Resolute Efforts Against Emerging Challenges" in Baku, emphasized Azerbaijan's staunch defense of justice, international law, and member states' legal interests based on the "Bandung principles" throughout its chairmanship. He recalled Azerbaijan's unanimous chairmanship extension decision for 2019-2022, highlighting that amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic response, the Non-Aligned Movement spearheaded unified global efforts. Additionally, Azerbaijan's chairmanship witnessed institutional growth, notably with the establishment of the Movement's Parliamentary Network and Youth Organization in 2021 and 2022, marking another milestone in Azerbaijan's leadership.

President Ilham Aliyev, addressing the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement's Coordinating Bureau in Baku, emphasized the organization's role as a champion of multilateralism and stressed the importance of the Movement's enhanced engagement in global affairs. He urged member states to rally around the "Bandung principles" and vocally oppose violations of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and interference in internal affairs.
