The presence of other actors in the region is not only unhelpful, but also disrupts stability, the Iranian Foreign Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said at a press conference, SIA reports.
According to the spokesperson, the problems in the region should be solved by the countries themselves.
"Experience has shown that extra-regional countries always pursue their own interests and their presence has never been useful. Wherever American forces were present, they not only did not provide security, but also created instability and insecurity. We consider the presence of trans-regional forces in the region to be against stability and security," Kanaani said.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman also emphasized the importance of diplomatic consultations to resolve disputes.
Armenia and the United States are holding joint military exercises "Eagle partner 2023" on Armenian territory from September 11 to 20 within the framework of "Preparation for participation in international peacekeeping missions".
The US-Armenia joint exercise has caused a reaction from Russia as well.
"We do not consider it a good thing for an aggressive NATO member to try to enter the South Caucasus," said Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister.
