Cavusoglu: Commission to prepare normalization plan with Syria to meet in coming days

The commission to prepare a roadmap for the normalization of relations between Türkiye and Syria will meet in the coming days, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said, SİA informs via TASS.

“Following the meeting in Moscow, we decided to create a commission to prepare this roadmap. From our side, it will include Deputy Foreign Minister Burak Akcapar and, of course, representatives of other departments - the Ministry of Defense, Intelligence, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It will be a quadripartite commission. In the coming days, it will gather and begin work on the roadmap,” Cavusoglu is quoted by the Hürriyet newspaper.

He said that by now more than 550,000 Syrians have returned from Türkiye to their homeland. "Work is underway to send new groups at a fast pace. The goal is to return refugees who arrived in Türkiye from areas controlled by the regime to the same regions. For this, we will hold the necessary negotiations," he said.

At the talks between the Foreign Ministers of Russia, Iran, Syria and Türkiye on the Syrian issue and the normalization of relations between Ankara and Damascus on May 10 in Moscow, the parties, in particular, discussed the issues of the voluntary and safe return of Syrian refugees to their homeland, as well as the settlement in Syria based on the UN Security Council's resolution. The parties decided to form a special committee to develop a roadmap for normalization, which will include the return of refugees.
