Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk within the framework of his participation in the 52nd session of the UN Human Rights Council, SİA informs, citing MFA.

The meeting focused on the current cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the UN in human rights, the current regional situation, and the issues of the Lachin road.

Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov hailed the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN in various fields, including the protection of human rights. In this regard, he emphasized the prospects for further expansion of cooperation.

Elnur Mammadov also noted that Azerbaijan's peace and construction efforts face Armenia's continuous political and military provocations. In this regard, he stated that Armenia's untruthful position over allegations of blockade of Armenian residents by Azerbaijan and that a humanitarian crisis has arisen in the region are intended to overshadow the rightful protest of Azerbaijani civil society representatives around the Lachin road, and thus mislead the international community. Mammadov emphasized his country's readiness to ensure the safety of Armenian residents living in the region, like all citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged opinions on other issues of mutual interest.
