Bayramov: Issue of Armenia’s illegal activity should be considered in legal plane

The issue of Armenia’s illegal activity in the occupied Azerbaijani territories should be considered in the legal plane. This process has no influence on the process of signing a peace treaty, but is discussed separately, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said at a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, commenting on the start of Azerbaijan’s interstate arbitration process against Armenia in accordance with the Energy Charter agreement, SİA informs.

“This is not the only arbitration or litigation that Azerbaijan has raised to the interstate level. This is not the only lawsuit we have against Armenia,” the foreign minister said.

He noted that Azerbaijan did a lot of preparatory work for the process of collecting facts of illegal exploitation of Azerbaijan’s energy resources by Armenia over the past 30 years.

“These are two years of intense activity. There are a lot of components, a complete chain, which proves the legitimacy of the demands specifically against the Republic of Armenia, which was directly involved in the plundering of Azerbaijan’s energy resources. Does this process have anything to do with the draft peace treaty? No, we believe that these are two tracks that have nothing to do with each other. These are our claims that we have against Armenia for illegal activities in these territories. We believe that this issue should be considered in a legal plane. Moreover, when we talk about a peace treaty, this is how we look at the future, that is, we would not combine and mix these two processes,” the Azerbaijani foreign minister said.
