Azerbaijani peaceful protesters on Shusha-Khankendi road issued a statement

The participants of the protest action held on the Shusha-Khankendi road against the illegal exploitation of natural resources in the territories temporarily stationed by the Russian peacekeeping contingent of the Republic of Azerbaijan issued a statement regarding the one-sided, biased presentation of this action by some states at the UN Security Council meeting, SİA reports.

The statement reads: “We, representatives of NGOs, express our condemnation regarding some states at the meeting of the UN Security Council held on December 20, 2022, presenting a peaceful protest rally held against illegal exploitation and ecological terror in Azerbaijani territories under temporary control of Russian peacekeeping contingent as a one-sided, biased, and that the discussions don’t reflect the real situation on the ground.

It is unacceptable for Armenia and a permanent member of the UN Security Council – France to unilaterally abuse this platform, confuse the international community, and engage in dirty propaganda. Such unwanted attempts don’t serve to achieve sustainable peace in the region, but rather serve to aggravate the situation. Criminal businessmen and a number of war criminals in Armenia and Karabakh deliberately keep the local population under the influence of their policies and don’t allow them to contact the Azerbaijani side, and try to create an atmosphere of artificial "humanitarian disaster".

At the same time, Armenia's making completely baseless claims on Azerbaijan's sovereign territories at the UN Security Council is unacceptable and such an approach contradicts the main principles of the Security Council.

We note once again that the protest action is peaceful and representatives of the civil society are chanting slogans to stop the exploitation of the natural resources of Azerbaijan and irreparable damage to the environment. We consider not taking into consideration of our just concern by the discussions at the UN Security Council as disrespectful, prejudiced,d and a selective approach to civil society.

We would like to note regretfully that the UN Security Council, the main body which is responsible for the protection of peace and safety in the world, turned a blind eye to Armenia keeping Azerbaijani lands under occupation for 30 years, its ethnic cleansing policy, Khojaly genocide, expelling of over 1 mln. Azerbaijanis from their native lands, deliberate destruction and looting of the cultural heritage of Azerbaijani people, illegal settlement policy, and did not take any steps in the direction of the implementation of the resolutions adopted by it. It is regretful that the UN Security Council became a hostage of the double standards.

It is clear from the information provided by media, and social media users from the site where the protest was held that vehicles carrying humanitarian aid, passengers, ambulance, and other humanitarian transport vehicles can move freely and every condition is created by protest participants in this regard. As well as the NGOs created a hotline for the operative solution of humanitarian problems of the residents of Armenian origin living in the Karabakh region. Therefore, there is no basis for the claims that residents of Armenian origin were alleged “blockade”.

As participants of the protest action, we demand to stop using the Lachin road for military purposes and stop the removal of our natural resources from the country. The Lachin-Shusha-Khankendi road is the sovereign territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

We are also strongly opposed to the threat of illegal Armenian armed groups in the territories of Azerbaijan, where the Armenian authorities and the Russian peacekeeping contingent are temporarily stationed, to the residents of Armenian descent, and to preventing their reintegration into Azerbaijan by all means. We invite residents of Armenian origin to live together.

As representatives of civil society, we once again declare that we are ready to mobilize all our resources to eliminate humanitarian problems of our citizens of Armenian origin living in Karabakh.”
