Sharmazanov: "Russia remains the only guarantor of the security of Armenia and Karabakh"
"The actions and rhetoric of the Armenian authorities in the situation regarding the Lachin corridor are against their real interests," the representative of the Republican Party, and the former vice-speaker of the parliament Eduard Sharmazanov told Armenian press, SIA reports.
Sharmazanov criticized the statement of the representatives of the ruling team that the closing of the only road connecting Armenia with Karabakh is the exclusive competence of Russian peacekeepers, and some claimed that Russia forced Armenia to join the Union state through Azerbaijan.
"Today, we have reached such a situation that the Armenian leadership not only washed its hands of Karabakh, turned a blind eye to the security problems of its residents, avoided talking about the right to self-determination, but also directly blamed the Russian peacekeepers."
Sharmazanov accused Pashinyan's government of provoking the Russian side into a military conflict and discrediting Russian peacekeepers in the eyes of Armenian society.
Interestingly, the former Armenian official admitted that the authorities were able to solve the second task to a certain extent.
Sharmazanov considers it necessary to convey to the general public that there is no alternative to Russia's military presence in the region.
The representative of the Republican Party, which opposes Armenia's approach to NATO, says that Russia should make concessions in this conflict, which will pave the way for "what happened 100 years ago".
Sharmazanov is sure that the supposed failure of Russia will open the way for the Turkish army to Yerevan.
