The Importance of MR fusion biopsy in the diagnosis of prostate cancer - scientific event held

On April 30, 2026, an annual meeting of uro-oncologists titled “The Importance of MR Fusion Biopsy in the Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer” was held at the Central Customs Hospital. The event was organized by the Scientific and Practical Training Center of the Medical Service of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Ismayil Efendiyev, Deputy Head of the Medical Service of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, PhD in Medicine and Associate Professor, delivered an opening speech. He shared his views on the purpose of the event, the importance of modern diagnostic methods, and the role of early detection of prostate cancer in clinical practice.
The event was moderated by Bahruz Khaligov, Head of the Urology Department of the Central Customs Hospital. As part of the scientific program, Rashad Sholan, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Head of the Scientific-Practical Center of the Main Military Medical Department of the State Security Service, and Head of the “Kidney Diseases and Organ Transplantation” Department at the Military Hospital, delivered a presentation titled “MR Fusion Prostate Biopsy — Application of Integrative ARTEMS Technology.” In his presentation, he provided detailed information on the use of more precise biopsy methods through the integration of MRI and ultrasound technologies, the advantages of targeted diagnostics, and their impact on clinical outcomes.
Following this, Eldeniz Huseynov, Head of the Radiology Department of the Central Customs Hospital, presented on the topic “The Role of Multiparametric MRI in the Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer: How Necessary is the PIRADS Classification for Urologists?” His talk covered the diagnostic capabilities of multiparametric MRI, the role of the PIRADS system in risk assessment, and its influence on urological decision-making.
During the scientific meeting, Nadir Aghazade, a resident physician of the Urology Department of the Central Customs Hospital, presented a review of the latest research articles on the topic and highlighted the importance of clinical studies in the decision-making process.
The event concluded with discussions and a Q&A session. Participants exchanged views on the presented topics, addressed practical questions, and shared clinical experiences.
The meeting was met with great interest by participants and was considered a valuable platform for implementing modern diagnostic approaches.
