Azerbaijan successfully represented at the International Laboratory Medicine Symposium in Islamabad

Dr. Sabina Ibrahimova, Head of the Laboratory at the Central Customs Hospital, delivered a presentation on April 4, 2026, at the International Laboratory Medicine Symposium held in Islamabad, Pakistan, on the topic: “Comparative Analysis of Anti-HCV Antibody Detection Results on Snibe Maglumi X8 and VIDAS 3 Platforms.”
In her presentation, Dr. Sabina emphasized the serious global health risks posed by the hepatitis C virus, the importance of early disease detection, the role of modern laboratory diagnostics, and noted that effective screening programs are based on highly accurate and reliable laboratory tests.
According to the results of the study, a high concordance (approximately 98%) was observed between the CLIA-based Maglumi X8 and the ELFA-based VIDAS analyzers. At the same time, the Maglumi X8 system demonstrated higher sensitivity, while the VIDAS system showed higher specificity. Special attention was given to the critical confirmatory role of the HCV RNA PCR method in evaluating discrepant results.
Dr. Sabina Ibrahimova also highlighted the importance of implementing quality management systems in modern laboratories, including ISO 15189 standards, internal and external quality control (IQC and EQA), as well as the automation of laboratory processes.
This presentation is of significant importance in showcasing Azerbaijan’s scientific research in laboratory medicine on the international stage and demonstrating the country’s achievements in the field of laboratory diagnostics.
