TAVI and high-tech invasive cardiology procedures are successfully performed at the Central Customs Hospital

At the Central Customs Hospital, under the leadership of the Head of the Cardiology Department, invasive cardiologist Ilgar Tahiroglu, the team of invasive cardiologists successfully performs TAVI procedures, EVAR procedures, endovascular closure of thoracic aneurysms and ruptures via femoral access, Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA), stent implantation, cardiac chamber catheterization, coronary angiography, aortography, thoracic and abdominal aortography, peripheral angiography, renal angiography, as well as other modern diagnostic and treatment methods. In addition, electrocardiography (ECG), Holter monitoring, stress testing, echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, stress echocardiography, implantation of a temporary pacemaker, application of an intra-aortic balloon pump, and other advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are successfully carried out at the hospital. Under the guidance of the Head of the Cardiology Department, invasive cardiologist Ilgar Tahiroglu, together with cardiologists — Head of the Polyclinic Department Dr. Tamilla Aliyeva, Dr. Shahla Aghayeva, Dr. Samir Mustafayev, Dr. Emin Hajibalayev, Dr. Emin Allahverdiyev, Dr. Gunay Mammadova, Dr. Laman Eyvazli, Dr. Sevinc Mammadova, Dr. Gunay Hatamova, and Dr. Nargiz Akbarova — patients are provided with modern diagnostic capabilities and advanced invasive intervention methods. These approaches ensure early detection of cardiovascular diseases, effective treatment, and prevention of complications.

The treatment process in the department is organized in accordance with international clinical protocols, a multidisciplinary approach is applied, and improving patients’ quality of life alongside restoring their health is defined as a key priority.
Since September 2023, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) has been successfully performed within the framework of the service package of the State Agency for Compulsory Medical Insurance. The TAVI procedure is one of the rarest procedures performed in Azerbaijan and represents one of the latest achievements of modern medicine. The procedure is performed without general anesthesia or full sedation — using only mild sedation and without any surgical incision.

For the first time in Azerbaijan, in November 2023, aortic valve replacement via axillary and subclavian arterial access was performed at the Central Customs Hospital.
