Information was received by the Coordination Center for Organ Donation and Transplantation of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan regarding the diagnosis of brain death in a patient being treated at City Clinical Hospital No. 3, SİA reports.
This was stated in a joint statement by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Central Clinic.
The Coordination Center for Organ Donation and Transplantation immediately carried out the necessary measures for organizing and coordinating the process of organ donation and transplantation.
After the diagnosis of brain death was confirmed, the deceased’s family, showing a high example of humanitarianism, agreed to donate the organs. Thus, for the first time in the Caucasus region, the heart of a deceased donor was transplanted.
The heart transplant surgery was carried out with high professionalism by a qualified medical team led by the Chief Physician of the Central Clinic, Professor Kamran Musayev. The heart of the deceased donor was transplanted to a resident of the Tovuz district born in 2006.
