UN: Yerevan has poorest air quality in South Caucasus

Yerevan has the worst air quality in the South Caucasus region, Françoise Jacob, the UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia, stated during the forum titled "The Future of Banking: Innovation and Development Prospects," SİA informs via Armenian media.

She noted that poor air quality negatively affects the country's overall attractiveness.

Jacob also drew attention to the active desertification of land in Armenia, as well as river pollution caused by agricultural and construction activities.

According to her assessment, only 0.6% of Armenia's GDP is allocated to the environmental sector.

The official emphasized that ahead of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), scheduled for 2026, Armenia must demonstrate its commitment to biodiversity protection and create a conducive environment for the development of a green economy.
