Azerbaijan is currently experiencing a geomagnetic storm that is expected to last until September 11, according to the Astrophysics Department at Baku State University (BSU), SİA informs.
The increased solar activity, caused by M-class and other flares in several regions of the sun, has been detected by space apparatus observing coronal mass ejections directed towards Earth. Solar activity is predicted to reach M (R1-R2 - moderate to medium) levels on September 10-11, with a certain probability of reaching X (R3 - strong) levels.
Currently, the geomagnetic storm is at a medium level. However, starting from 05:00 pm (GMT+4) on September 10, the storm is expected to rise to G1 (mild) levels. During the night of September 10th and the morning of September 11th, around 06:00 am, the storm will reach G2 (medium) levels. The geomagnetic field is expected to return to normal background levels starting from 01:00 pm on September 11th.
The geomagnetic storm will be more pronounced in high geographic latitudes, while in middle latitudes, it will be felt moderately.
