There are up to 200 underwater mud volcanos in the Caspian sea. About 120 of them are in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, said Rasim Sattarzadeh, Head of the Environmental Policy Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, SİA reports.
He said that there are 8 such volcanic islands in the Absheron archipelago: "Windy weather in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula creates some difficulties for ships to approach the area. As soon as the weather allows, an expedition team consisting of specialists from the Ministries of Ecology and Natural Resources, Emergency Situations, SOCAR, and ANAS will go to sea with the research vessel "Alif Hajiyev", in order to determine the impact on the Caspian Sea and its environment, to assess the current environmental situation."
