U.S. military strikes facility on Iran's Qeshm Island after intercepting missiles, drones
The U.S. military carried out a strike on a ground control facility on Iran's Qeshm Island after intercepting missiles and drones allegedly launched by Iran, according to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM said U.S. forces successfully intercepted several ballistic missiles and drones on June 2 in response to Iranian attacks in the Middle East and conducted a self-defense strike.
"U.S. forces successfully defeated multiple ballistic missiles and one-way attack drones and conducted a self-defense strike in response to Iranian attacks in the region," the statement said.
According to CENTCOM, Iran launched five missiles, but none reached their intended targets. The U.S. military also reported shooting down three drones.
The incident marks the latest escalation in tensions between the United States and Iran amid ongoing regional security challenges.
