International regulations related to accidents occurring anywhere in the world usually state in regulatory documents that it is recommended for an investigation to be completed within one year after the incident, Ilham Amirov, Vice President of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), told journalists, APA reports.
He emphasized that this is not a requirement, but a recommendation: “Because the results here carry extremely important significance. They later disseminate this to all aviation authorities worldwide so that such incidents do not occur again in the future.
There is no limitation. Investigations related to accidents can continue for years if necessary. For example, if an investigation is underway, certain institutions "open" and examine a certain part, device, or assembly of the aircraft in order to analyze it.
This can often take a long time. But it is usually recommended that it be completed within a year. They do not set a restriction because if the investigation commission has not been able to determine the cause of the incident completely objectively and with certainty, a restriction could force them to act non-objectively due to time pressure. Therefore, international standards have not imposed a limitation.”
