5.8-magnitude earthquake shakes Turkish coast

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake has struck in the Mediterranean Sea, according to Türkiye's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), SİA informs via TRT Global.

The quake occurred 10.43 kilometres off the coast of Marmaris district in Türkiye's southwestern Mugla province, AFAD said on June 3.

It was at a depth of 67.91 kilometers, it added.

Mugla Governor Idris Akbiyik said field scans are ongoing. He noted that one person was killed and 69 were injured as a result of the earthquake.

"As a result of the earthquake, a 14-year-old child died due to a panic attack," he wrote on X.

According to Akbiyik, 69 people were injured as a result of panic and jumping from a height, 46 of them were taken to the hospital. The governor emphasized that there was no destruction in the city.
