Today marks 31 years since the terrorist attack committed by Armenian terrorists at the January 20 station of the Baku metro on March 19, 1994.
SİA informs that a homemade time bomb planted under a seat in the head railroad car detonated when it stopped at the station.
The explosion killed 14 people and injured 49. Among the dead was Azerbaijani People's Artist Rafig Babayev.
The judicial authorities proved that the terrorist attack at the metro station was plotted by Armenian special services and carried out by members of the separatist Lezgin Sadval organization.
Eleven members of the Sadval Lezgin National Movement suspected of committing the crime were arrested. Two of them were sentenced to death, and nine were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment. The perpetrator of the terrorist act, Ogtay Gurbanov, died during the explosion.
