Pope Francis remained in stable condition on Wednesday, as he is battling pneumonia, the Holy See said in a statement.
"The chest X-ray performed yesterday has radiologically confirmed the improvements observed in the previous days," the statement said.
The Vatical described the overall medical picture as complex, though.
"The Holy Father continues to undergo high-flow oxygen therapy during the day and non-invasive mechanical ventilation during nighttime rest," the statement said.
There was no indication in the statement how much longer the pontiff will have to spend in the hospital. He previously suffered several respiratory crises that required resuscitative measures.
March 13 will mark the 12th anniversary of his election to the papal throne. A service is planned for the occasion in the Argentine church in Rome.
