Azerbaijan finds remains of Indian tourist who went missing in forest three years ago
On February 9, as a result of operational search measures carried out by the employees of the Zagatala Regional Police Station, the remains of a body, a handbag, bank cards, a mobile phone, and other personal belongings belonging to Manikanth Kondaveeti, a citizen of the Republic of India born in 1993, who went missing in the Zagatala region in May 2022, were discovered in the "Shamilovka" forest massif near the village of Jar in the Zagatala region of the Greater Caucasus Mountains, APA reports.
The remains of the body and other belongings were taken from the highland area and submitted to the Zagatala regional prosecutor's office for appropriate examinations.
An investigation into the fact is underway at the Zagatala regional prosecutor's office.
Note that Indian citizen Manikanth Kondaveeti went missing in Azerbaijan’s Zagatala district on May 13, 2022, after heading into a forested area alone. Despite search efforts involving police, volunteers, and specially trained dogs from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, no trace of him was found at the time.
A reward of 40,000 AZN was announced by his family in hopes of finding him safely, with strict conditions for its distribution. The recent discovery of his remains ends the years-long search, though authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances of his death.
