A court hearing has been held at the Sabail District Court of Baku to choose a preventive measure against Azerbaijani citizen Azer Bagirov, SİA informs.
Azer Bagirov, accused of treason (espionage by assisting representatives of a foreign intelligence service), was detained in Jordan as a result of measures carried out by the State Security Service of Azerbaijan and brought to this country.
According to case materials, the foreign state's intelligence service recruited Bagirov, as an Azerbaijani citizen, to conceal their involvement in preparing acts of sabotage in third countries.
Azer Bagirov thus engaged in espionage activities in favor of the foreign intelligence service and thereby deliberately damaged Azerbaijan's interests abroad.
The court chose detention as a preventive measure against Azer Bagirov under Article 274 (treason) of the Criminal Code.
