Azerbaijan prevents transit of 90 kg of drugs from Iran to Russia

A large amount of narcotic drugs, hidden by unusual methods, was discovered in a vehicle carrying a load of vegetables from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation, transiting through Azerbaijan, the Press and Public Relations Department of Azerbaijan State Customs Committee told SİA.

The truck was detained at the Astara Customs Department, and during the verbal questioning, the driver said that there were no objects hidden from customs control in the car, that have not been declared to the customs body.

During the inspection at the stationary X-ray unit, suspicious lines were inspected in the cargo.

At that time, the customs inspection was implemented by using a canine service dog to the load of lettuce on 22 pallets in the vehicle.

As a result, in 30 packages on one of the pallets, a large amount of narcotic drugs were found in 209 hermetically packed packages, which were wrapped in foil and made into the shape of lettuce, hidden from customs control.

According to the Forensic Examination Center of the Ministry of Justice, the net weight of the parcels was 69 kg 970 grams of narcotics - dried marijuana and 20 kg 870 grams of narcotics - hashish resin.

The fact is being investigated.
