Charter of Friendship and Cooperation between Azerbaijan's Ismailly and France's Evian-les-Bains repealed
Permanent advisory body to the head of the Executive Power of the Ismailly region, issued a statement on repealing the Charter of Friendship and Cooperation signed between the city of Ismailly and the city of Evian-les-Bains., APA reports.
In a statement published on the website of Ismayılli HP, it is noted that in May 2015, a Charter of Friendship and Cooperation was signed in Ismailly between the city of Ismailly of the Azerbaijan Republic and the city of Evian-les-Bains of the French Republic: “The purpose of signing the Charter at that time was to develop friendly relations between the two cities, to contribute to bilateral relations in the field of culture, tourism and economics. Practical steps were taken in this direction, mutual visits took place between the parties.
On December 18, 2023, at a meeting of the Municipal Council of the city of Evyan, unfounded accusations were made against our country, and support for Armenia was expressed.
As a continuation of cooperation, in 2017, the city of Evyan hosted the opening ceremony of the “Azerbaijani Garden” and the “Friendship” spring in the park, as well as a monument to the outstanding Azerbaijani poetess Khurshudban Natavan. Also, a memorial plaque “Azerbaijan-France Friendship Park” was installed in the Central Park of the city of Ismailly.
Unfortunately, after the Patriotic War, the French side stopped contacts between the cities as a sign of support for Armenia.
On December 18, 2023, at a meeting of the Municipal Council of the city of Evyan, unfounded accusations were made against our country, and support for Armenia was expressed. The city mayor also announced the removal of all “Azerbaijani Garden” signs.
Members of the Permanent Council under the head of the Executive Authority of the Ismayilli region strongly condemn the preconceived opinions voiced against our country at the meeting of the Municipal Council of the city of Evyan, and the decision on the “Azerbaijan Garden”.
As a sign of protest against the anti-Azerbaijani policy pursued by France against our country, the Charter of Friendship and Cooperation signed between the city of Ismayilli and the city of Evian-les-Bains will be considered no longer in force from December 26, 2023.
The central park of the city of Ismailly now bears the name of the Azerbaijani poetess Khurshudbanu Natavan.”
