Madat Babayan detained on suspicion of participation in Khojaly genocide
Investigations into terrorism and other serious crimes committed by illegal Armenian armed detachments in the territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan are underway, says a statement by Azerbaijan State Security Service, SİA reports.
According to information, as a result of local anti-terrorist measures held in September 2023, Babayan Madat Arakeli, who joined illegal armed detachments, armed with an "AKM" machine gun, and suspected of committing terrorist acts with the intention of national enmity and enmity in an organized group, was disarmed and detained in the territory of Gozlukorpu village of Kalbajar district.
During the investigation, the accused Madat Babayan stated in his testimony that he was a participant in the Khojaly tragedy in February 1992.
He noted that on February 25, 1992, at around 11:00 p.m., during the attack from Khankandi city in the direction of Khojaly city, they ambushed more than 150 armless civilian population, mostly women, children and elderly, who wanted to escape to Asgaran district, killed them by shooting from machine guns in that area.
Currently, complex investigations are underway on the aforementioned and other related crimes.
