Morocco earthquake death toll rises to more than 2,600 people, state-run broadcaster reports

At least 2,681 people have been killed in the Moroccan earthquake and 2,501 have been injured, state-run broadcaster 2M said Monday, SİA reports citing CNN.

Rescuers are still searching through rubble and trying to reach isolated communities after the devastating earthquake that struck Morocco, killing thousands and leaving more injured or unaccounted for.

The quake is the strongest to hit the nation’s center in more than a century, and its epicenter was not far from popular tourist and economic hub Marrakech. Its impact was felt far and wide, reaching as far north as Casablanca.
