"Resistance group" members created for establishment of "Karima" state in Azerbaijan were arrested

Employees of Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), State Security Service (SSS), Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) of Azerbaijan carried out joint special and complex operational measures in order to prevent criminal acts to be committed by a group of people bribed by Iranian special services in exchange for financial interest and by means of religious propaganda, SİA reports citing joint statement made by MIA, SSS, PGO.

It is reported that Rufulla Akhundzade and Bakhtiyar Bayramov, who live in Iran and cooperated with the special services of that country, suborned a resident of Azerbaijan's Tartar district, Arif Jumshudov with tempting promises and gave him instructions to create a "resistance group" to establish the "Karima" state which to be governed by Sharia laws through seizure of power by causing armed riots on the territory of Azerbaijan and forcing the constitutional structure of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

On the basis of the instructions given to him, Arif Jumshudov involved acquaintances - Terzan Garashov, Sanan Mammadov, Khagani Mammadov and Igbal Akhundov around him who propagate religious radicalism in this work. He forwarded instructions of Rufulla Akhundzade and Bakhtiyar Bayramov to those persons in the secret meetings he regularly organized at his home. The members of the group performed activities to attract additional people and informed Rufulla Akhundzade about this.

Rufulla Akhundzade also involved Anar Isayev, a resident of Baku in cooperation, and assigned him to organize a "resistance group" for the establishment of the "Karima" state by causing riots on the territory of the country. Rufulla Akhundzade introduced Anar Isayev to Arif Jumshudov in order to organize and work together, promising to provide high financial income, weapons and all other necessary support.

Detainees have carried out the tasks they received from abroad to harm the traditions of tolerance formed in Azerbaijan by promoting Iran and religious radicalism on social networks and in the ceremonies where people gather, portraying themselves as "religious" in the society. At the same time, group members organized the sale of narcotics sent from Iran and spent the huge amount of money they got on promoting religious radicalism and financing other disruptive activities in Azerbaijan. Search and investigation measures are underway in this direction.
