According to the order signed by the Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev on the start of the 2023-2024 academic year, the academic year in all types of general educational institutions of the country (except for the teaching of internationally accredited educational programs) will be September 15, 2023. will start on 14 June 2024.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, the first lesson in general educational institutions will be dedicated to the topic "Heydar Aliyev is the savior and founder of Azerbaijan". According to the order of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the approval of the curricula of general educational institutions for the 2023-2024 academic year, the school year is divided into two semesters: the first semester - September 15 - January 26; second semester - February 1 - June 14.

During the school year, there will be 5 days of autumn (November 16-20) and 5 days of winter vacation (January 27-31). There will also be an additional 5-day spring break (May 1-5) for primary schools.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, the number of students will be 2.1 million, and the staff will be 300,000. 220,000 of them will be in pre-school education, 1.6 million in general education, 33,000 in vocational education, 60,000 in secondary education, and 220,000 will be studying and working in higher education institutions.

In the new academic year, a total of 481,131 students will be educated in general educational institutions operating under the supervision of the Baku City Education Department.

It is predicted that 40,500 students will study in the I class, 41,016 in the IX class, 31,300 in the X class, 26,887 in the XI class, and 130 in the XII class.

It is expected that 34,995 children will be involved in pre-school educational institutions operating under BCTI, and about 23,000 five-year-olds will be involved in preparatory groups of general educational institutions.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, 28,498 teachers will work in general educational institutions operating under BCTI, and 4,375 educators-teachers will work in pre-school educational institutions.

It should be noted that there are 310 general education schools, 3 special-type general secondary schools and 5 part-time evening schools under the authority of BCTI, totaling 318 schools and 344 pre-school educational institutions.
