Hikmat Hajiyev: Zangezur corridor will change South Caucasus, bring prosperity and cooperation

The Zangazur corridor has the potential to change the transportation map of Eurasia, said Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, at a briefing for the diplomatic corps held at the Zangilan Congress Center, APA reports.

“We believe that the Zangazur corridor can create significant advantages not only for our region but also for the broader Eurasian space. This corridor has the potential to change the transportation map of Eurasia, strengthen prosperity, cooperation, and interaction. In this process, the South Caucasus, including Azerbaijan, will gain special attention and importance.

As discussed, Zangilan was previously considered one of Azerbaijan’s remote regions, but now it is turning into one of the strategic and central areas where the East-West and North-South corridors intersect. Azerbaijan plays a key role in the construction and development of these routes, completing its part as quickly as possible. After the liberation of Zangilan and other areas, we began large-scale restoration and reconstruction work in the Karabakh–East Zangazur region, including the construction of transport and connecting infrastructure. Roads, highways, and railways are already being built.

For us, these connecting lines – corridors, roads, and railways – are not just construction sites or asphalt; they represent civilization itself. Roads have changed human history for millennia, and we are confident that the roads we are building today will also transform the entire Caucasus region, connect different areas, and bring prosperity and cooperation. Azerbaijan eagerly anticipates the full transformation of the region along this route and intends to contribute to the development of all South Caucasus countries. Once again, I thank each of you for joining us on this visit,” Hikmat Hajiyev said.
