Azerbaijan, ADB focus on expanding strategic partnership

Azerbaijan’s Finance Minister, Sahil Babayev, met with Bhargav Dasgupta, Vice-President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), during his official visit to the country, SİA reports.

Babayev praised the long-standing partnership with ADB, noting that joint projects financed through loans, grants, and technical assistance have played a key role in advancing Azerbaijan’s development priorities. He reaffirmed confidence in continuing close cooperation under the ADB’s Country Partnership Strategy for Azerbaijan for 2025–2029.

The minister also highlighted progress in the non-oil sector, including initiatives to upgrade water supply and sewage systems in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, support for infrastructure requirements of the Baku Metro, and modernization of the country’s railway network.

Dasgupta underlined his belief that collaboration between Azerbaijan and ADB will deepen across all sectors, particularly in supporting the private sector, and will continue in line with long-term partnership principles.

The discussion also covered current cooperation, potential avenues for private sector support, upcoming partnership opportunities, and other areas of mutual interest between Azerbaijan and the bank.
