Azerbaijani gas to start flowing to Syria via Türkiye on August 2

Deliveries of Azerbaijani natural gas to Syria through Türkiye will begin on August 2, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said, SİA informs.

“I would like to note that this Saturday, August 2, we will start exporting Azerbaijani natural gas to Syria—specifically to Aleppo via Kilis. A swap agreement has been signed with Azerbaijan to enable these deliveries,” the minister said.

According to Bayraktar, the construction of the pipeline on the Turkish side up to the Syrian border was completed in record time, and all necessary infrastructure on the Syrian side has also been prepared. The project is financed by Qatar.

Energy ministers from Qatar and Syria are expected to attend the launch ceremony.

Bayraktar emphasized that the Azerbaijani gas delivered to Syria will primarily be used for electricity generation.

He added that the planned daily supply of 6 million cubic meters of gas will enable the production of up to 1,200 MW of electricity. With an additional 500 MW provided through Turkish sources, Syria's daily electricity availability is expected to rise from the current 3–4 hours to approximately 10 hours.
