Fake lotteries, games, and prize offers: We often come across fake lottery or campaign pages on social media that are created under the names of well-known brands. These pages imitate the brand’s name, logo, and colors so convincingly that users may fall into the trap due to a moment of inattention. Believing they have won a prize or gained the opportunity to participate in a lottery, people click on the promoted link and enter their card details. As a result, the funds on their cards are stolen. That’s why it’s important to be extremely cautious when encountering such ads or pages on social media. It is especially important to note that when banks conduct official campaigns or lotteries, they do not ask customers to register. Eligible users automatically qualify based on their customer activity and behavior. Fake job offers: In this type of scam, job seekers are lured with promises of high-paying, easy, or remote jobs. Scammers request CVs, personal information, and sometimes even an upfront payment. This is done to collect personal data and make the offer appear legitimate. After the initial contact, they often send a task or project file – which may contain malicious software – to the victim’s computer or mobile device. This software allows remote access without the user’s knowledge. The main goal is to steal personal data stored in the user’s browser. Therefore, it is crucial to be cautious with suspicious job offers. A moment’s inattention can make anyone a victim of cyber fraud. Just as we take measures to protect our safety in real life, we must do the same in the digital world. Never share personal data such as your card’s CVV/CVC code, one-time OTP codes sent via SMS, card PIN codes, or the FIN number on your ID with third parties. Don’t trust unprofessional videos or advertisement texts claiming to be from banks. Cyber fraudsters use various tactics like hypnosis, lies, and manipulation to achieve their goals.
