European countries have decided to wait until talks on Ukraine, scheduled for May 15 in Istanbul, before asking the United States to impose new anti-Russia sanctions, SİA reports citing Bloomberg.
According to sources, on May 12, the US informed European officials of its intention to provide an opportunity for Russia and Ukraine to hold direct talks in Ankara.
It is after these talks that the issue of increasing pressure on Moscow will be brought to the agenda.
If Vladimir Putin refuses to meet with Volodymyr Zelensky or if Russia does not agree to an immediate, unconditional ceasefire, European leaders intend to call on US President Donald Trump to take restrictive measures again.
However, according to reports, the US administration has not yet made a final decision on additional sanctions against Russia.
