Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of "Azerbaijan Railways" CJSC (ADY) received a delegation led by Yang Bin, the president of China Railway Container Transport Corp. Ltd. (CRCT).
At the meeting, extensive discussions were held on the expansion of cooperation in the field of railway and logistics between Azerbaijan and the People's Republic of China, including the increase of cargo transportation through the Middle Corridor.
The parties exchanged views on the joining of CRCT to the "Middle Corridor Multimodal Ltd." joint venture of railways of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Georgia, and revealed that this significant event will take place within the framework of the VIII International Silk Road Exhibition to be held in Xi'an on September 19-20.
At the meeting, it was noted that as a result of the major works carried out in the recent period in the direction of the development of the Middle Corridor, the movement of container block trains from China has been restored, and 212 container block trains have been sent from Chinese ports to Azerbaijan since the beginning of 2024. It was emphasized that the delivery time of containers to Baku port being 8-10 days, and to Black Sea ports being 10-12 days, as a successful result of the measures taken.
The Chinese side expressed its satisfaction with the mentioned indicators and said that by joining the joint venture of CRTC "Middle Corridor Multimodal Ltd", it will contribute to increasing the volume of cargo transported through the Middle Corridor.
At the meeting, it was also stated that on September 19-20, discussions on the establishment of the new "Eurasian Transport Route" International Association will be held in Baku on the initiative of ADY with the participation of Chinese, Central Asian and European railway operators. It was noted that the main topic of the discussions will be the development of the southern wing of the Middle Corridor through cooperation within the framework of this association and the provision of efficient, fast, safe and structured cargo transportation operations between China-Central Asia-Europe and vice versa.
