Dollar/Ruble Exchange Rate Surges Past 90 Amid Ongoing Ukraine-Kursk Conflict

The dollar/ruble exchange rate has exceeded the 90 mark today, following a week-long offensive by the Ukrainian army in the Kursk region.

The ruble has lost approximately 4.1% of its value against the dollar on the first trading day of the week, with the exchange rate climbing to 90.5, SIA reports.

The conflict between Ukrainian and Russian forces has been ongoing for seven days since the Ukrainian army entered Russia's Kursk region on August 6. The situation in Kursk has escalated to a "federal state of emergency," and anti-terrorism measures have been implemented in the Kursk, Belgorod, and Bryansk regions.

In addition, Yevgeny Balitskiy, the governor of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia region, reported yesterday that a fire broke out in the cooling system of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant due to the Ukrainian assault. Russian authorities have stated that the fire is under control and that there is no radiation threat. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed that Russia is responsible for the fire at the power plant.
