Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan strengthen economic cooperation during high-level meeting in Bukhara
An Azerbaijani delegation led by Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Economy, paid a working visit to Bukhara, Uzbekistan, to explore new opportunities for enhancing joint activities in the economic realm.
In the meeting with Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, the parties highlighted the essential role of the heads of state of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in reinforcing the economic partnership.
The sides deliberated new opportunities across various economic areas between the two countries, highlighting the importance of increasing joint initiatives in this regard. They discussed cooperation issues in industry, agriculture, energy, including renewable energy, as well as decarbonisation.
As part of the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation attended the 13th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The co-chairs – Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov and Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov described the commission as an effective platform for developing business relations and implementation of joint projects.
During the meeting, the parties mentioned the trade and energy cooperation between the two counties, highlighting a broad potential in the area of transport and transit as well.
The Azerbaijani side provided an insight into the various stimulation mechanisms applied to increase economic activity and create a favourable business environment in the country, as well as business potential of liberated territories and implemented infrastructure projects. The Uzbek entrepreneurs were invited to establish competitive activities by taking advantage of concessions in the industrial zones and Alat Azad Economic Zone in Azerbaijan.
In conclusion, the protocol on the outcomes of the meeting was signed, envisaging the strengthening of partnerships in economic-trade, energy, transport-transit, agriculture, innovations, and other domains. The delegation also toured the historic centers in Bukhara as part of their visit.
