PM: Slovakia interested in developing relations with Azerbaijan

During her official visit to Slovakia, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Prime Minister Eduard Heger.

The Prime Minister of Slovakia stressed that Azerbaijan is a friendly country for Slovakia.

Heger briefed the Speaker on the work done in Slovakia to combat COVID-19 and the current situation related to the pandemic and inquired about the steps taken in Azerbaijan in this area.

Gafarova noted that this was the first visit to Slovakia as the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and expressed hope that the meetings and discussions will contribute to the development of bilateral ties, as well as inter-parliamentary relations. The parliaments of the two countries cooperate within some international organizations.

Speaker stated that as a result of the victory in the 44-day Patriotic War, Azerbaijan liberated the lands occupied by Armenia and restored both historical justice and territorial integrity. Thus, our country has implemented four UN Security Council resolutions at its own expense. Azerbaijan is restoring and rebuilding cities and regions, settlements, infrastructure, cultural, historical, and religious monuments, which Armenian vandals completely destroyed during the 30-year occupation.

She added that Armenia sent armed criminal terrorist groups to the liberated territories, tried to present the detained terrorists as prisoners of war after the November 10 statement, and refused to provide maps of the mined areas. She stressed that to date, 150 civilians and servicemen have been killed or seriously injured due to landmines set by Armenia. This once again shows that Armenia continues to violate international humanitarian law grossly.

Sahiba Gafarova also informed about the work done in Azerbaijan to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, international events initiated by President Ilham Aliyev in this area.

At the end of the meeting, Speaker of the Milli Majlis presented Prime Minister Eduard Heger with a book entitled "Karabakh before and after the occupation."
