Hundreds of Armenians flee their homeland per day, Armenian MP

Although official figures on Armenians fleeing their country are undisclosed, a member of the parliament named Aram Manukyan claims that every day some five hundred Armenians choose to abandon their native land. 01 May, 2013 edition of the "Nouvelle d’Armenie" newspaper published in Paris contains an article on this topic, SIA reports citing New Times.

According to the article, that very MP witnessed five hundred Armenians crossing through the border control point on the Armenia-Georgia border. Sometimes their number exceeds one thousand. In order to confirm the fact he personally travelled to the above mentioned location and eyewitnessed some three to four hundred young Armenians waiting in the buses at the crossing point. Those young people must pay sixty thousand drams to cross the border, bound for Russia and elsewhere. More often than not Armenians flee with entire families. Manukyan believes that corruption permeated state officials are not quite concerned about the migration problem.

What are the factors compelling the young people to abandon their homeland? Armenian officials mislead the international community, trumpeting economic rise in the country and improving welfare of its citizens. If indeed the situation conforms to the claims of the Armenian officials then why so many people flee the country on a daily basis? Thus, Armenian authorities are deceiving not just the international community but also their own people. In reality, the economy is paralyzed, unemployment is overwhelming and majority of the citizens are on the verge of poverty. Armenia that became a toy in the hands of the group of oligarchs is being ravaged by corruption. Thus, deprived of any prospects young people are compelled to abandon Armenia once and for all.

In other words, a country that losses its young generation has no future.
