Facebook paid less tax last year than the average British worker – despite making £105million from advertising and other sales.

The revelation, in the Daily Mail, has caused outcry – with one MP saying that the company was ‘using elaborate corporate structures to avoid tax’.

Last year, the social network paid a mere £4,327 in corporation tax – which comes in at £1,000, less than the average British worker’s income tax bill.

Facebook has a billion users worldwide, and is thought to earn up to £105 million in Britain

Facebook’s low bill comes because the company is, technically, operating at a loss in Britain – and is in the red to the tune of £28.5m.
