A seminar on the use of images received from satellite Azersky, high resolution (1.5m imagery products) optical Earth observation satellite for purposes of agriculture and cadastre was held today at Ground Satellite Control Center of Azercosmos OJSC.
Azercosmos set a goal to make contribution to this area, create new opportunities and development prospects by using satellite Azersky in accordance with the relevant tasks given by President Ilham Aliyev at a meeting held on 27 January 2015, and dedicated to the results of the first year of the execution of the State Program on socio-economic development of the regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2014-2018.
Specialists of Azercosmos and satellite manufacturer Airbus Defense and Space (France) made presentations on technical features of the satellite, the effective use of lands through images received from the satellite, productivity assessment and prediction, cadastre and determination of land borders, digital cartography at the seminar which was held with the aim of educating potential beneficiaries.
The seminar was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and the State Committee on Property Issues. Similar seminars are also planned to be held by the end of this year, which will be dedicated to the application of satellite images to defense and security, oil and mining industry.
Azersky was successfully launched into orbit on June 30, 2014 and was handed over to Azercosmos on December 2, 2014. The satellite is expected to operate for 12 years. The satellite has a broad range of applications such as defense, security, emergency response, exploration of natural resources, maritime surveillance, environmental protection, urban planning, cartography, agriculture, tourism and so on.
Being the only satellite operator in the Caucasus, Azercosmos OJSC is providing high quality satellite services for areas of telecommunications and geographical exploration. Azerspace-1 was launched in February 2013 and is currently managed by Azercosmos. The satellite provides highly-reliable broadband and broadcast solutions to its customers in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the Caucasus and Central Asia. The satellite has an anticipated service life of 15 years and is equipped with 36 active transponders: 24 in C-band, 12 in Ku-band at 46° East longitude. In December 2014, Azercosmos took over the rights to operate the Azersky, high resolution (1.5m imagery products) optical Earth observation satellite and started to commercial operation of remote monitoring of the Earth’s surface, including Geo-information. The company’s strategic development plans include expanding the scope and range of services. To this end, Azercosmos plans to place the second telecommunications satellite Azerspace-2 at the orbital position 45 ° East longitude in 2017 and have high resolution Earth observation satellite in upcoming years.
